  1. Greg Sullivan:

This was the former Illinois Hotel built in 1899 on the site of the Chenery House Hotel. The Chenery House was where President-Elect Abraham Lincoln and his family stayed from February 7 to February 11, 1861. The Lincoln family left from here for Washington, D.C. where Mr. Lincoln became the 16th President of the United States. The hotel consisted of three stories and a total of 71 rooms. In 1947, the building was purchased J.K. Gingold and his son, William, from Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Dirksen and Mr. & Mrs. Edward Flynn. The building was converted into offices at that time.
